DATE OF MOH ACTION: 09/09/1874 Upper Wichita River, Texas.

 

Indian Campaigns Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Germany, he immigrated to the United States in 1868. He served in the United States Army during the Wars with the Plains Indians as a Sergeant in Company I, 5th United States Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery in action on September 9, 1874 at Upper Wichita River, Texas. His grave lain unmarked for ninety years until a Medal of Honor marker was placed in 2000.
