DATE OF MOH ACTION:

 

Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Born Muskingum County, Ohio, he served as a Private in Company D, 30th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, enlisting at Columbus, Ohio on August 16, 1861. He would go on to be awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Vicksburg, Mississippi on May 22, 1863. He served through the end of the war, and was honorably mustered out at Little Rock, Arkansas on August 13, 1865. He was awarded his Medal on August 10, 1894, thirty one years after he played his part at Vicksburg.

 

MOH CITATION:

 

Gallantry in the charge of the "volunteer storming party.
