DATE OF MOH ACTION: 02/07/1863 Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

 

Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served as a Sergeant in Company G, 6th Pennsylvania Reserves (35th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry). He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania (July 2, 1863).

 

Medal was issued August 8, 1900. The five other 6th Pennsylvania Reserve soldiers who won the Medal for this action was Thaddeus S. Smith, John W. Hart, J.Levi Roush, George Mears, and Chester S. Furman.

 

MOH CITATION:

 

With five other volunteers gallantly charged on a number of the enemy's sharpshooters concealed in a log house, captured them, and brought them into Union lines.
