Spanish-American War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Newmarket, County Cork, Ireland, he served in the United States Marine Corps during the War with Spain as a Private on board the "USS Nashville". He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery during the cutting of the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, on May 11, 1898. His Medal was awarded to him on July 7, 1899.
