DATE OF MOH ACTION: 02/02/1864 Newport Barracks, North Carolina.

 

Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Captain in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a First Lieutenant in the 9th Vermont Infantry for action on February 2, 1864 at Newport Barracks, North Carolina.

 

MOH CITATION:

 

When, after desperate resistance, the small garrison had been driven back to the river by a vastly superior force, this officer, while a small force held back the enemy, personally fired the railroad bridge, and, although wounded himself, assisted a wounded officer over the burning structure.

 

BURIAL LOCATION: ROBINSON CEMETERY, CALAIS, VERMONT.
