DATE OF MOH ACTION: 12/05/1864 Spotsylvania, Virginia.

 

Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He entered the Union Army at Wilkins, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He served as a Sergeant and he was awarded the CMOH as a Corporal in Company A, 63d Pennsylvania Infantry for action on May 12, 1864 at Spotsylvania, Virginia. Kindig passed from Tuberculosis on November 17, 1869 and was buried in historic Allegheny Cemetery in Pittsburgh.

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Corporal John M. Kindig, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 12 May 1864, while serving with Company A, 63d Pennsylvania Infantry, in action at Spotsylvania, Virginia, for capture of flag of 28th North Carolina Infantry. (Confederate States of America).
