DATE OF MOH ACTION: 05/04/1865 Amelia Springs, Virginia.

 

Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served as Major of the 1st Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Amelia Springs, Virginia on April 5, 1865. His Medal was awarded to him on January 15, 1894. Originally interred in Philadelphia's Monument Cemetery, he was reinterred in Lawnview in 1956.

 

MOH CITATION:

 

Conspicuous gallantry in the capture of a field battery and a number of battle flags and in the destruction of the enemy's wagon trains. Maj. Thomas lost a leg in this action.
