DATE OF MOH ACTION: 29/09/1864 Chaffin's Farm, Virginia.

 

Buck was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1843. He entered service on August 17, 1862 at Windsor, Connecticut. He became a private in the 21st Connecticut Volunteer Infantry and was soon promoted to corporal on January 20, 1863. After the events of September 29, 1864 where his display of gallantry earned him the Medal of Honor during the Battle of Chaffin's Farm, he was again promoted to first lieutenant in March 1865 and mustered out of the service the three months later.

 

MOH CITATION:

 

Although wounded, refused to leave the field until the fight closed.

 

BURIAL LOCATION: MOUNTAIN HOME NATIONAL CEMETERY, JOHNSON CITY, TENNESSEE.
